A city like Great Falls, MT, practically invites residents to stay fit. After all, this city is located in one of the most impressive states where wilderness is concerned. Staying fit doesn’t require one to climb a mountain, however. There are plenty of activities within the city for residents and visitors. There are also a host of attractions, no matter what time of year one happens to find themselves in Great Falls. Some of the activities allow visitors and residents to get out and explore the natural environment while they keep their bodies fit and healthy.
The River’s Edge Trail is one of the most popular places to be in Great Falls. The Missouri River runs through town and, on any given day, there are likely several people to be found running along the river. This trail is completely dedicated to self-powered undertakings. One may hike, ski, bike or jog along the trail, depending upon the time of year. This trail will also take visitors by some of the dams along the Missouri River. As early as the 1880’s, the community was already using these rivers to power its electricity, garnering the nickname “The Electric City”.
Skateboarding facilities are available for those who like their sports a bit more adrenaline-heavy. The Riverside Railyard Skate Park offers several challenging obstacles and ramps.
During the winter, residents may wish to take up some skating and visit the Ice Plex. For those who like warmer waters, there is the Morony Natatorium. The indoor pool here is a popular community draw. Of course, some people see a lot of beautiful land and think of golf almost immediately. There are several different courses in the area from which to choose. Hunting and fishing are also hugely popular in Montana, given the amount of wilderness. |
