Explore the trails of Lewis and Clark in Great Falls, Montana

Have you been to the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center in Great Falls yet? It is a 25,000 square foot facility in Montana that houses a theater, retail store, exhibit hall and even an education room. It is meant to help people understand the expedition that Lewis and Clark made through what was at the time new and uncharted lands.

This USDA Forest service managed building is located at 4201 Giant Springs Road. There are many trails such as the Cliff trail, Bluff trail and River’s Edge trail open for everyone to explore, as well as outdoor activities and lectures available in all seasons. Inside you can watch a video introduction, live programs with speakers in full costume, and permanent exhibits on the life and discoveries of the expedition.

If you are looking for upcoming fun events in Great Falls, then you are at the right place! September sees lawn chair fun, at an informal gathering near the Montana River. Lectures and special guests will be at these events, all you need to bring is yourself and your favorite comfy lawn chair. Star Parties will also be held and will feature telescopes and a friendly staff to help you experience the skies above like never before. The Indian Voices program also runs until the start of September and offers lectures on Native American history.

October is a happening time in Great Falls, and you can enjoy a brand new exhibit that is called “On the Brink of Change.” This will give you an up close and personal look at what the Isaac Steven’s railroad survey crew’s lives were like many years ago. There will be reproductions of the images that the artists on the trip made of the beautiful untamed lands, as well as a history of Isaac Steven’s life and its effects on the India Nations.

There are also many events for children at the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center. “Dugout Day Camps” run for five days and show children up to grade 5 what a day in the life of Lewis and Clark was like. They will also do fun activities such as setting up a tent, learning how to draw a story, How to decorate with beads, and how to cook while camping out. Other events for children are the “drop n’ shop”, and becoming a junior explorer.
